Career Story

Adriana Villela

Lead of DevOps Coaching

I feel excited and invigorated, knowing that what we’re doing is helping to shape IT within BMO at the grass roots level. It is such an amazing and unique opportunity, which makes me excited to come into work every day.

Why did you decide BMO was right for you and why do you love working here?

I first interviewed to work at BMO as a Sr. Java Developer back in 2007. After passing the first interview with the hiring manager, I had my second interview with the Chief Architect. I have to admit that I was pleasantly surprised. I was so surprised by how someone so high up was so technical and so passionate about technology and about the organization. After that, I was sold.

I left BMO in 2013, dead set on pursuing a career outside of IT. After a year, I realized that I loved IT too much to stay away, and I found myself back at BMO. Returning to BMO seemed like a natural choice for me. It felt like home. It felt like family.

In my current position, leading the DevOps Coaching team, I feel excited and invigorated, knowing that what we’re doing is helping to shape IT within BMO at the grass roots level. It is such an amazing and unique opportunity, which makes me excited to come into work every day.

What has helped you in your career development as you explored new opportunities at BMO?

I’ve had the opportunity to make some great friends at BMO, in both business and technology areas. This has given me an appreciation for what happens on both ends of the organizational spectrum, and that you can’t ignore either, if you’re going to be successful.

Moving into DevOps and Shared Services was in no small part due to the support of my previous manager. He encouraged me to learn more about DevOps through doing, and most importantly, he also supported my move into the DevOps and Shared Services team.

What excites you about what’s ahead?

Seeing DevOps adoption grow within BMO, and getting to the point where DevOps is no longer a “thing”, but rather something that’s baked into developers’ day-to-day practices.
