Career Story

Wendy Switzer

Branch Manager
Retail, Trenton Branch

I know I can count on my peers and my team for support - in the day to day and/or during deployments. I also have every confidence that if my spouse was posted, BMO would support me in a career relocation.

Why did you decide BMO was right for you and why do you love working here?

I knew at the initial interview when the hiring manager indicated I was overqualified for the position she was filling, but “it would be BMO’s loss” to not hire and develop me, even if that meant she only had me a short time. That hiring thought process led to me being promoted in less than 4 months into an Assistant Branch Manager role. BMO showed me that they value employee engagement and growth.

How does BMO support you and/or your family as a military spouse/partner?

I know I can count on my peers and my team for support – in the day to day and/or during deployments. I also have every confidence that if my spouse was posted, BMO would support me in a career relocation.

In your experience, what has made you successful at BMO?

My strong team ethic and belief in the Being BMO values.  I’ve received valuable training and my own willingness to accept coaching & feedback from great leaders.

What has helped you in your career development and what lessons have you learned along the way as you explored new opportunities at BMO?

Being selected for the initial Assistant Branch Manager training cohort. The learnings at the BMO Institute for Learning about myself, about coaching & sales have all allowed me to build a good team around me and successfully achieve a Branch Manager role within 3 years.

What excites you about the next year ahead?

Continued development of my staff that are new to the role, mentoring an intern and continuing to bring the Canadian Defence Community Banking program to a larger audience.

How would you describe your experience and career at BMO in 1 sentence?

A continuing adventure of learning & developing in a challenging and dynamic environment.
